Leica AOBS SP5 confocal microscopy

The Leica SP5 confocal is one of a few laser scanning confocal microscopes in the AIF.  The Leica AOBS uses variable spectral detection instead of traditional emission filters.  There are a few laser lines for excitation and the dyes are limited by these.  The lasers for excitation have lines at 405 nm plus Leica's standard laser set Red Yellow Blue for the AOBS.

Temporary installation is scheduled for December 19, 2007 in the Forchheimer building with a move to the new satellite AIF in the CGTM (Michael F. Price Center for Genetic and Translational Medicine in the Harold and Muriel Block Research Pavilion) scheduled for January or February of 2008.

The AIF manual for setup, operation, shutdown is here.

If you like using ImageJ, there is an excellent set of plugins for opening the Leica ".lif" file type written by OME at LOCI.  The most recent version on their website is  loci_tools.jar and the version we tested from 28 December 2007 is loci_tools.jar .  To understand more about this set of ImageJ plugins, please see http://www.loci.wisc.edu/ome/formats.html
